Pastoral Prayer

Yes, Lord, we need you.
We acknowledge our deep need for your presence in our lives.
We confess that it is often only during the times of crisis
that we recognize that need.
When the winds begin to blow
and we feel ourselves being tossed around
by the sea of life,
we admit that we cannot live on our own.

We turn to you during these storms,
trusting that you are in the boat with us
and ask for your help.
You do not fail us.

Today, we come to you
and some of us are living through that storm.
Some are experiencing the pain and loss of divorce.
Others
And still others, whom we do not know,
are in the midst of civil war.

We lift up the people of the Congo and Liberia.
We pray for Muslim, Jew and Christian
living in Israel and Palestine.
Be present to the children of Afghanistan and Iraq
as they struggle to survive in their war torn countries.

We especially petition this day
that you be present to Don Goodick’s family
during their time of grief.
We know that you have welcomed Don home,
releasing him from all pain and celebrating his life with us, yet we still grieve his loss.
Be with his family during these days.

Help us to open to your presence during the calm, sunny day.
May we appreciate anew each day of life,
grateful for your healing presence
in the beauty that surrounds us.
