Text Box: The World Day of Prayer will be observed on Thursday, May 7th, 2009. There are several opportunities for you to participate in this special day.  A service will be conducted at noon in Oakland at the Gazebo in downtown.  This service is mainly for those who live and work in Oakland and it gives  people a chance to participate in a prayer service on this date.  Another service will be held at the Garrett County Fair Grounds in McHenry from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.  This service will be held in the show arena where the livestock are judged at the fair.  There will also be a special event for youth at the old armory building in Oakland.  This World Day of Prayer youth event will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.   This will be an evening of prayer, a youth speaker, puppet show, Stix with Jesus Praise Group, Loch Lynn Human Video and Lock Lynn Praise and Worship Team.  Snacks will also be provided.  
Everyone is invited to participate in one or all of these events.

Text Box: A Service of Prayer and Praise for those in the military will be held at Paradise Chapel on Wednesday, June 24th at 6:30 p.m.  This service will be dedicated to those serving in the military and their families.  This service will be similar to the service we had last August..  We ask that those who attend bring items that can be mailed to those serving our country. An offering will be received to help ship items that are collected.  A list of items you can bring is listed at the end of this article.
If you would be willing to help plan this service, we ask you to please speak to Pastor Sam or Pastor Amy.  Many people expressed their thanks for the last military prayer service we held and we would like to make this service just as memorable. 
Items to bring to be sent to the troops include:
(No pork products) Beef Jerky, Slim Jims, Peanuts, Cashews, Mixed Nuts, Goldfish crackers, Trail Mix, Chips (Snack size), Cheese and/or Peanut Butte Crackers, gum, hard candy, breath mints, cookies, Fruit/pudding cups with plastic spoons, Baby Wipes (hard packs and travel packs), Q-tips, Crossword Puzzle books, nerf balls and Frisbees, stationary and pens, single drink packets, and golf balls.

The North Garrett Parish, made up of eleven United Methodist Churches in Northern Garrett County, is  going to have covered dish dinner and hymn sing on Pentecost Sunday, May 31.at the McHenry Church. This Pentecost Hymn Sing will be a time of fellowship with our fellow United Methodists and we invite everyone to come and share the moving of the spirit in song and worship. People are invited to bring a song, reading, story or poem that they would like to share during this time.  Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share during the dinner at 5:30 p.m. which will be followed by the hymn sing and sharing.  Table service and beverages will be provided.

Come one! Come all! The Trustees of the DCUMM are asking everyone to bring your buckets and wear your overalls.  Spring cleaning days are scheduled for the Hoyes Chapel beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20th 2009., and for the Paradise Chapel beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6th, 2009. Please note this change in work dates. Please be sure to bring your favorite cleaning tools with you to make the chapels fresh as spring.
