COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Willa Gill Food Kitchen

For over a year, Grinter has joined with Trinity UMC to cook assemble and serve the food kitchen at Willa Gill Center in downtown Kansas City, Kansas.  We do this six times a year (every other month).  In August, 335 people received a good meal because of this cooperative outreach effort among churches in the area.

The Grinter efforts have been coordinated by Betty Peet.  She'd like to thank Tom Clark from Edwardsville UMC and Jerry Grey for all the help they have provided as well in this project as well as all those who have volunteered their time.  Grinter thanks Betty for her leadership in this community effort.

If you would like to learn more about this endeavor, please contact Betty and she will be happy to give you information and tell you how you can help.

Grinter Gospel Revelation

The artists formerly known as the Grinter Pickers have been busy providing outreach to area churches.  In September they performed during Trinity's community-wide Family Fun Day.  The event was free and over 250 people participated in the games, moonwalk, blood drive and free lunch.

In October, GGR will be performing at the Second Saturday Supper on October 10 from 5-7 pm.  Plan on attending this Mexican Fiesta meal and get some great entertainment from Grinter's talented musicians.

YOUTH GROUP NEWS

The Breakfast Club continues to meet the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 7:00 p.m.  (Grinter on the 2nd; Edwardsville on the 4th).  There are 11 youth grades 5-12 involved; there is always room for more, so if you would like to be involved, just contact Pastor Kim or come to the next meeting, which will be held October 11 at Edwardsville.

The youth are planning on participating in this year's CROP walk, and will also be performing a short drama at the community Thanksgiving service in November.

CROP WALK FOR HUNGER

The Kansas City area 2009 CROP Walk will be held Sunday, October 11 at Loose Park.  The Breakfast Club will be participating in full force and invites you to join them in this effort.

Hungry people in developing countries typically walk as much as six miles a day to get food, water and fuel, and to take their goods to market.  The CROP walk is a walk in solidarity with their struggle for existence.  We walk because they walk!

CROP Hunger walks help fight hunger and poverty around the world, including the United States.  Up to 25% of what a CROP Hunger Walk raises assists food banks, pantries, community gardens and other local hunger-fighing initiatives.

The CROP walk is special because they are community-based and interfaith.  They are organized by local religious leaders and are open to all faiths and community groups.

If you would like to participate but cannot walk, you can contact Pastor Kim and she will help connect you with a walker to make a pledge.

BECOMING A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH

Pastor Kim has instituted a new practice into services at both Grinter and Edwardsville.  Once a month, on the third Sunday, she will offer the opportunity for anyone wishing to become a member of Grinter to comer forward and do so.

COMING IN NOVEMBER -

COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING WORSHIP SERVICE

Once again the UMMKCK will be holding a community-wide Thanksgiving celebration November 17th at the Metropolitan Avenue United Methodist Church, located at 3730 Metropolitan Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.

The service does not include scripture and sermon, but DOES provide prayer, testimony, music and other expressions of faith and thankfulness for all God has given us throughout the year.  It is non-denominational and you are encouraged to invite friends and neighbors to attend.

This year, Grinter will be represented in a big way by the youth presenting a short dramatic presentation; during the testimony; and the Grinter Gospel Revelation will be providing music during the refreshment/fellowhip time afterwards.

Also participating will be Rev. Mic McGuire, who spoke at both Edwardsville and Grinter in September, and the Glory Generations vocal group.

Mark you calendars now to kick off the holiday season in a spiritual way!

MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!

Music Director Therese Riley is planning music for choir/group during the holidays.  Music has been chosen for the Hanging of the Greens service and for the service on December 26.

The only requirement to join the choir is to show up!  If you have the gift of language, then use it to glorify the Lord!  The more the merrier, and there IS safety in numbers!  If you like to sing, then come join us for musical fellowship and ministry during this holiday season.

What?  You have a hectic schedule?  Well, we're making it E-A-S-Y for everyone this year!  There will be one big "singing workshop" to get a grasp of the music, then only one or two additional rehearsals will be required.  Yes, we are all busy, and we tend to over-extend especially at this time of year -- but why not extend your time with singing!

Here's all you need to do:

Check your calendars to see what your availablity is on these dates:

- Sat. 10/24 from 9:00 a.m. to noon

- Wednesday, 10/28 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.

- Sun. 11/1 from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Only ONE of these times will be chosen, depending on which one works for the most participants.  However, if you cannot make any of these times but still want to sing with us, contact Therese as well so that she can have your name on the list for future rehearsals.

Please contact Therese by October 20th.  She can be reached:
