This church was organized in 1816 by
Rev. Elijah Metcalf with 10 members. The congregation
originally met in homes, then in a log school house. The
first church building was built around 1826.
The second church was built on the present site in 1837
and was used until 1854. The third church building burned
to the ground in 1949. The present church was built in
its place that same year, and was dedicated debt free in
1950.
The Sunday School in 1866 was the largest in the history
of the church, numbering 255 including teachers. In 1881
the ladies of the church met and organized the Ladies Aid
Society. This group is still active today! They are now
the United Methodist Women. |
