Our United Methodist Women of
Rushford currently support five (5)
missionaries/missionary couples around the world.
Missions is one of their primary ministry purposes!
Esther Sampson is our local missionary. She
works right here in Rushford to bring Jesus to the
children of the community. She works with Bible Club
Ministries.
John & Sylvia Christensen are missionaries
to Ambon in Indonesia for Wycliffe Bible Translators.
John has been very busy in Bible translation into the
languages of the people where he was serving. They have
been working on Mark, the Joseph story, Acts, Matthew and
1 Thessalonians. There is real hope for the future
expressed in these accomplishments through Christ!
They have just shared the joy of having twins as they
prepare to return to Ambon.
Greg & Debbie Davis are serving in
Suriname, South America. They also serve with Wycliffe
Bible Translators. They have recently received a
large shipment of New Testaments in the language of the
Sarnami Hindustani people! This is the result of 20 years
of hard work! I do not think we realize how much care
goes into a new language translation of the New
Testament! These New Testaments have become very precious
to the people there!
Paul & Joyce Smith also serve in Suriname
with WBT. The Sarnami Hindustani people originate
in India. They came to South America in the last quarter
of the 19th Century to work as indentured servants. These
people have traditionally been resistant to the Gospel,
but many are now opening their hearts to the Lord! They
are now working on an Aukan translation! Paul & Joyce
can be reached by e-mail at: paul_smith@sil.org or
joyce-t_smith@sil.org.
Conrad & Irma Phelps are serving with WBT
in Arequipa, Peru. They are involved in training teachers
in bilingual education. They have responsibility for 17
schools. Be sure to pray for them as they minister in
this way!
