If you live in our community, we covet your membership
in Salem United Methodist Church.  You may join in one
of several ways:

By the Profession of Faith and Baptism
The first step is to be baptized.  Our pastor will be happy to discuss the meaning of the sacrament with you in your home or at the church at your convenience.  Then having attended the classes for membership you can join the church.  (We try to make the opportunity each third Sunday).

By Transfer from Another United Methodist Church
Simply mark the attendance sheet "Wish to Join" column.  Our pastor will then get in touch with you.  It is not necessary for you to write your former church.  The church office will handle the details of transfer for you.  We also ask that you attend the classes.

By Transfer from Another Christian Denomination
The process is very much like the one above.  Since you are already baptized and confirmed, these steps will not be repeated.  You will be asked to take the one vow taken by all members of the United Methodist Church: "Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service?"

How to "Join" Without "Joining"

If you are a United Methodist whose membership is in another city or state and you wish to retain that membership in your "home" church, you can become an Affiliated Member.  This grants you pastoral oversight, fellowship, and full participation (including the holding of office) in Salem United Methodist Church.  You will not be counted on our roll but on the roll of your "home" church.  The pastor will write your "home" church pastor informing him/her of your Affiliate member status.  Members of other Christian denominations may elect to become Associate Members.

However which way you choose to serve the Lord, we welcome you in the love of Jesus Christ.
