Introducing our Pastor
Pastor Jim Hundley

I am looking forward to
the great, new challenges ahead for us at Salem. I am excited about what God has
in store for us as a church. It is my prayer that we will be open to every
possibility that God has in store for us and that everything will be on the
table as we work together for the good of God’s kingdom.
As a way of introduction, let me tell you about my family. My wife Alice, to whom I have been married for the last 31 years, is my rock and soul mate. She has supported me in our ministry together, and she has been a great partner and mother to our two daughters. She will be the chair of the math department at Bayside High School for the coming academic year. She likes to sing in the choir, read, and bake. She loves little children and is looking forward to being a grandmother one day.
Katie, our oldest daughter, is 26 and has been married to Mike Ricotta for almost a year (October 15). She is happy and currently job hunting; she has a master’s degree from ODU and loves little children. She takes care of our grand dog Barnaby. Mike, our son in-law, works at the Norfolk shipyard for DOD as an engineer in the nuclear submarine department. We love him even though he is a Yankee from upstate New York.
Annie, our youngest, is
22, and a third year medical student at Eastern Virginia Medical School. She is
a graduate of Duke University in biomedical engineering. Annie is interested in
everything! She is an avid reader, hiker, and nature lover; she is currently
seeking which branch of medicine she will serve. She has a loaded schedule and
is struggling to make room for her boyfriend Nathaniel, as well as her other
interests. Annie will be living with us at the parsonage throughout the
remainder of her medical school training.
I
am a 54-year-old person who thinks he is 35. I have a new knee, which I have
been trying to get used to over the past six weeks. I believe that the very best
form of evangelism is mission work. I spent two weeks in New Orleans in
September helping the teams that went out each day to recover the bodies of
those who had lost their lives in hurricane
Katrina. I have been to Africa twice and plan to go again in the near future. I
hope some of you will join me.
My hobbies are computers,
Redskins football (my two favorite teams are Washington and whoever is playing
the Dallas cow girls) and taking care of our dog Chester, who thinks he owns me
instead of the other way around. You will meet Chester because he likes to go
wherever I go. I love the Church and am very proud to be a United Methodist
Pastor. I am an Orthodox Christian, which makes life interesting some times. I
love young people, and have always made them a priority in my ministry.
That
is just a little about us. We are looking forward to getting to know you and
yours in our next months and years together.
Shalom,
Pastor Jim
