The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

What We Do

Salem United Methodist Women is an active unit in Salem United Methodist Church. It meets at 2nd Tuesday, Jan-May 7p.m., June- 1st Tuesday 7p.m. There are inspirational devotions and programs followed by business meetings and refreshments. The membership is less than 50, yet many things are accomplished throughout the year. The Unit has received a Six-Star Award for several years for its support of Mission Giving.

 

Some of our projects include:

    1. Help with Meals on Wheels
    2. Contribute to youth attending Appalachian Service Project
    3. Give Bibles to graduating High School Seniors who are members of Salem UMC
    4. Attend District Prayer Breakfasts
    5. Attend School of Missions in Blackstone, VA
    6. Attend UMV Annual Conference in Blackstone, VA
    7. Visit Lydia Roper Home and celebrate birthdays
    8. Make and sell Easter Eggs
    9. Support youth attending camp
    10. Attend District Officer's Training Day
    11. Send Get Well and Sympathy cards
    12. Participate in the Reading Program
    13. Contribute money to Candle burning
    14. Visit shut-ins
    15. Remember Shut-ins at Christmas with "goodies"
    16. Donate to Wesley Community Service Center in Portsmouth, VA
    17. Attend United Methodist Day at the General Assembly in Richmond, VA
    18. Save Campbell's Labels for Education
    19. Save cancelled postage stamps for UMCOR
