August 2000 Relief Team Meeting

A. DISASTER RELIEF TEAM

C.  Orientation to Disaster Relief Team responsibilities:

  • Gathered E-mail addresses and other addresses
  • Talked about chain of command.
  • Talked about possible scenarios of disasters in our areas.
  • Talked about contacting government disaster people in our county and area.
  • Know who the Emergency Mgt Director and the Red Cross Director in your county.   Introduce yourself and give your contact numbers.
  • United Methodist Disaster Relief District Coordinators cannot promise anything.   But we can offer to try to be of assistance in obtaining volunteers and resources to help in any disaster recovery effort.

D. We talked about the possibility of encouraging all coastal United Methodist Churches in the South GA Conference to find a sister host church inland (at least 60 miles) to be a "Hurricane Evacuation Partner Congregation." Those people who have no particular destination to head to in case of an "ordered evacuation."

E. We did not set another meeting date. But we are subject to an emergency planning meeting anytime during the "Hurricane Season."

F. It was a good "team" meeting and an opportunity to get acquainted.
