Event/Building Usage:

68 East Third St. - Shelby, MI 49455
Ph: (231) 861-2020

1. Every activity scheduled in the church shall be Christ Centered. Consistent with this we urge that all facilities be treated as the Lord's House.

2. The church is available from Monday- Saturday 8:00 am-10:00pm.

3. Use of the church building or property must be coordinated through the SUMC church office. Dates for use of the building must be noted on the master church calendar located in the church office.

4. There will be no smoking in any of the church buildings and no alcoholic beverages on church property. Loud and profane language is strictly prohibited.

5. There will be no charge to members, immediate family of members, or active constituents (those who attend worship regularly) for the use of church facilities. However, they will be required to pay the appropriate Janitor fee(s).

6. There will be no building or janitor fees to anyone for funerals.

7. Other person(s) making requests for use of church buildings or grounds will be charged, and are responsible to pay in advance of use. A minimum deposit of one half of the appropriate fee(s) is to be made at the time of reservation. The balance is to be paid at least four weeks prior to the date of use. The deposit may be refunded if the church office is notified at least four weeks prior to the scheduled date.

8. Fees are as follows:

Sanctuary - $100.00 plus $50.00 Janitor fee
Fellowship Hall and Kitchen - $100.00 plus $50.00 Janitor fee.
(A church member or other SUMC designated person must be present during kitchen use)
Multipurpose Room - $50 plus $25.00 Janitor fee.
ALL above areas as a package - $200.00 plus $100.00 Janitor fee.

Other rooms within the building may be used with the approval of the Administrative Council. Fees to be set on an individual basis by the Ad Council.

The Nursery is not available for use at any time.

9. Select non-profit groups not charging a fee to participants may use the church facilities at no charge if approved by the Administrative Council. The group using the facility is responsible for setup and cleanup. Basically this means to leave the building in the same condition it was in when it was entered. If the cleanup is found not to be satisfactory, the group sponsor will be charged the appropriate Janitor fee(s) plus any damages. A listing of janitorial duties to be completed is at the end of this policy. In emergency cases, the Pastor or church Secretary may consult with the chairperson of the Administrative Council and/or Trustee chairman to allow use of the facilities without Ad Council approval.

10. Shelby United Methodist Church buildings and grounds are not to be used for fund raising activities by any non-church groups.

11. Approval of any other use of church buildings and grounds will be solely at the discretion of the Administrative Board.

12. When our church ladies cater meals, the United Methodist Women will determine the catering charge. It is recommended that these be handled on a sign-up or calling basis so the committee can plan for the appropriate number.

13. Funeral lunches are provided at no charge. Arrangements are to be coordinated with the funeral lunch committee. Donations are accepted.

14. Any group using the building on Saturday night must be out of the building by 10:00 PM. Church sponsored programs are exempt from this time limitation.

15. Equipment (Sound & Musical Instruments), kitchen supplies and office supplies are not included in building use fees. The trustees must authorize exceptions.

16. Select church property may be borrowed by making arrangements through the trustees. The person(s) borrowing church property will assume full responsibility for the repair and/or replacement of damaged equipment. Kitchen items being borrowed must be signed in and signed out on a list in the kitchen.

17. No memorial gifts may be removed from the church without Administrative Council approval.

18. Any unidentified and unclaimed articles left in the church building may be disposed of after four weeks. Lost and found areas will be established in the kitchen and in the east vestibule (off the sanctuary).
